Alternative medicines often get a bad rap for being hokey or ineffective. There’s good reason for this as I’ve been taking Echinacea for over six months now and I still came down with three colds. However, there are some effective treatments that non-western medicine offers. One is to help manage panic attacks. Now, despite what you may hear there is no way to cure panic attacks. You can in effect stop them permanently but to say “cure” suggests that it’s of strictly biological cause and that’s not the case. Through meditation and mindfulness one can learn how to effectively manage the psychological components that trigger a panic attack. Your biology many be prone to anxiety, but the attacks themselves have been shown to be a combination of biology and psychology. By being able to recognize panic attack warning signs and learning what to do during one, you can learn how to not have them in the future.
